Grade 11 Co-op Placement

Although I knew I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a child, my grade 11 co-op placement site supervisor was the one to fully inspire me to pursue my dream. Given the opportunity to work in a grade 1 classroom, I was able to observe how a classroom functions and learn the many different teaching techniques that there are. My site supervisor was very inclusive of me and encouraged me to participate in the every day routines. He gave me the opportunity to excel, as he would allow me to teach the children and help them throughout the day. For most of the day, I would be inside the classroom assisting the children with completing their work, helping the teacher with conducting activities, and supervising outdoor recess. This co-op placement was a great way to start my career, as I tried my best to reach the position I am in today.

MY WORK EXPERIENCE
Central Montessori School
Over the summer, beginning in the month of May 2016, I began working at the Central Montessori School located in Thornhill. I worked full-time over the summer months during their summer camp program. I worked in a Casa classroom with children ages 2-3 years old. I was the ECE Assistant that assisted the Montessori Teacher and the ECE in the room. Working in the summer was a wonderful experience and I am very thankful for this opportunity because it gave me a chance to gain more experience with children. In fact, it gave me the opportunity to understand how children learn differently in a Montessori setting. Classrooms are more structured, children are expected to work, items should be taken carefully and placed back in its original spot, and new presentations should be given to the children consistently to help expand their learning.
I am currently still working at this school. I work every Monday as a float; they place me where I am needed. At first I didn't think I would enjoy being a float, but i do because it gives me the opportunity to get to know all the professionals and children at the school. It gives me a chance to reach my goal of being more comfortable with the children.
Overall, I am very appreciative of this job and look forward to every Monday. I have grown to be attached to all the children and enjoy their company.
