Are You Afraid of Spiders?

To extend this activity, I invited a couple of SK children to join me during Centre time. I asked the children to write the sum of each column and decorate it with Halloween decorations. The children were excited to do so and looked forward to seeing there work in the hall.
Based on our theme this week (spiders) I wanted to further extend the children's learning by having them personally reflect on their feelings about spiders. During circle time yesterday when we discussed spider facts, the chidlren were very opinionated about whether or not they are afraid of spiders. For this, I planned to further this into a large group activity in which the children can share their feelings and learn to graph their data collection. The children were excited in sharing their feelings and all seemed to not be afraid of spiders, even though while they were colouring their spiders individually the children told me they were afraid of spiders. Overall the activity was exciting and it illicit a curiosity in the children, as they awaited their peers response.
