You've Got A Friend In Me
This weeks poem of the week was based on friendship. The children were encouraged to be friendly with their peers and to think about who they are as a person; their physical appearance, personality, interests, etc. It is important to teach children to be polite and caring individuals, not only in the classroom, but in every environemnt they may encounter.
For this activity, I had the children create a self portrait by decorating these pre-made construction paper people. The children were given a variety of different materials (feathers, pompoms, foam shapes, etc.) to decorate their craft.
This activity gave the chidlren the opportunity to reflect on friendship and themselves, as they took their time to creatively decorate their craft. They tried to use as many materials possible to make their person standout. Overall it was a fun experience for the children that i later got to present on their classroom bulletin board.
